Study in JOI Finds Accuracy of X-Guide™ Navigation is 11x Better Than Freehand Implant Placement

The Oct 2016, Vol. 42, No. 5 issue of the Journal of Oral Implantology features a new study that confirms the accuracy of placing dental implants using the industry-leading X-Guide™ dynamic 3D navigation system.

X-Guide Implant Navigation Accuracy The model-based study appearing in JOI (The official publication of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry) was used to determine the accuracy of placing dental implants using the X-Guide™ dynamic navigation system.

The study focused on measurements of the overall accuracy of implant placement relative to the virtual plan. It also compared accuracy of static guides, implants placed freehand, as well as other navigation systems on the market.

The results show that the 3D angular accuracy of the X-Guide™ system is approximately 11 times better than freehand and 2D lateral positional accuracy is approximately 8 times better than freehand.

Dynamic Navigation vs. Static Guides

The authors also stated, while both static and dynamic image navigation are highly accurate, dynamic navigation systems have the following advantages:

  1. The patient can be scanned, planned, and undergo surgery on the same day.
  2. The plans can be altered during surgery when clinical situations dictate a change.
  3. The entire field can be visualized at all times.
  4. Accuracy can be verified at all times.

Further clinical indications of dynamically guided systems include:

  • Limited mouth opening.
  • Tight interdental spaces that preclude the use of guidance tubes in CAD/CAM guides.
  • Distal implants (i.e. second molars) that are precluded from CAD/CAM static guides by prolongation height.
  • And the inability to take impressions due to hyper exaggerated gag reflex.

Increased Accuracy is Now Immediate and In-Office

In addition to the X-Guide system’s robust implant planning software, surgeons are also excited to bring navigation technology into the dental office. Increased accuracy is now immediate.

Same-day guided surgery can be a reality for more surgeons and patients. There are no additional processing or shipping delays that are common in the static guide process – and it’s a fraction of the cost of traditional guides.

With the X-Guide’s patented technology, learning and integrating navigation technology is easy. It is important to note that with this system, the surgeon concentrates on a single target to assist in precisely guiding the implant. The result – consistently achieve a more desirable functional and esthetic outcome.

Lately, the X-Guide system has gathered a lot of attention as the industry-leading Navigation system among surgeons, key opinion leaders, speakers, and dental journals and associations. It’s safe to say that the implant industry has eagerly embraced the X-Guide navigation system as the next big thing.

Dynamic Navigation to Perfect Implant Placement

Michael Block, DMD

This is the hands-on portion of Dr. Michael Block’s lecture on Dynamic Navigation for implant surgery. This interactive workshop will advance your proficiency with Dynamic Navigation drilling techniques and understanding of how to optimize the technology for your practice. Navigation. Static guide stents are limited to a predetermined implant position and no intra-operative position changes can be made. Dynamic Navigation allows the surgeon to visualize implant site development while the drills are in function to increase the accuracy of Position, Angle and Depth.

Objective: This course will put you a step-ahead of the learning curve to allow for proficiency to be achieved with extensive Dynamic Navigation case review followed by attendees completing hands-on drill demos on the X-Guide system using sawbones. Complete maxilla and mandible implant placement using dynamic navigation.
